Music and Hobbies

This last weekend I was able to attend my little brother's concert at the Velour on Saturday night.  While i was watching him and his band I realized how much I miss playing guitar and bass.  I taught guitar and bass lessons for quite awhile and recently I quit to pursue other jobs.  I miss playing and making music and I forgot how happy it makes me.

I feel like many of us forget about our old hobbies we had while growing up and we feel like we have out grown them.  I used to love to yo-yo of all things and I haven't touched a yo-yo for the longest time.  We should all reflect on older hobbies and consider rekindling those activities.  The chances are that they will make us happy.

So this week I'm gonna pick up my guitar and look for my old yo-yo just be a kid again.  Happiness can be found in the simplest things.  If it made us happy then it'll probably bring joy to us now and bring back memories of when all we had to worry about was getting to school on time.

Have a great week everyone!!!

  1. Good thought! It has been a bit tricky working back into old hobbies since returning from my mission, but I've found that the intent is different and the joy more. Most of all, I've found that sharing my hobbies with people who want to learn is extremely rewarding, probably the same way that teaching guitar is enjoyable for you. #businesscardsforguitarteachers

  2. Good call man. I do martial arts, and I have since I was about 5. Lately I have not wanted to do it as much, and it freaks me out because it has been a HUGE part of my life. But whenever I just commit and train, afterward I am always happier. So I agree with you - rekindle old hobbies and be happy!

  3. Boom. Great post. I agree that adult life can really push out some of the simpler joys in life. I enjoy running for exercise, especially during the warmer weather, but I haven't found the time. I'm excited as we approach the end of the semester, and I hope to find time to pick old hobbies and enjoy myself. Go make some sick music, man!

  4. Great post man! I saw my friend's band play at the Velour a little while back. Having hobbies is a great way to relax but still add value to your life. Sometimes you just gotta enjoy life and do some of your old hobbies so that you can have the motivation to do the rest of responsibilities

  5. I like that thought about returning to our roots essentially, I totally agree that revisiting old, and for that matter hopefully righteous, hobbies can really bring a sense of fulfillment again to our lives. i don't know if this applies as much but I used to play a ton of video games and so whenever I revisit one that I haven't played in a very long time it almost feels brand new again. The simple things in life can be the most profound. thank you for your thoughts.
